The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Mato Raikovich (ASN: 45749), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, south of Soissons, France, 21 July 1918. Private Raikovich assisted in carrying a machine gun forward through intense enemy machine-gun and artillery fire. Placing his machine gun in action, he delivered an effective fire which caused the enemy to abandon the counterattack.
