The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Ralph B. Mix (ASN: 1747423), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 312th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Grand Pre, France, 17 October 1918. While carrying a message through heavy shell and machine-gun fire to an advanced platoon, Private Mix found two wounded men, whose injuries he dressed. Upon returning from his mission, he asked for and received permission to take food to the wounded men. He subsequently made two trips through intense fire, carrying them back to shelter.
