The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Captain Jerry Noel Hoblit (AFSN: 0-49879), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-105F pilot near Hanoi, North Vietnam, on 21 January 1967. On that date, Captain Hoblit intentionally and courageously acted as decoy while ten hostile surface-to-air missiles were launched at him. His gallant actions resulted in pre-occupying the unfriendly surface-to-air missile sites to the extent that he became their only target, and this enhanced the success of the bombers’ mission. The result was that there were no losses to the primary strike force during this period of heavy attacks, and the target complex was completely destroyed. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Hoblit reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
