Working their way over extremely rough terrain around the rear of the ridge, they reached a point from which, by accurate fire of their rocket launcher and sub-machine gun, they killed the German officer in command and four of the gun crew, enabling the attack to continue. From their position, Private First Class Whary and his comrade continued to harass the enemy, killing nine more German soldiers, wounding eight others, and taking three prisoners.
