The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Clyde H. Webster (ASN: 12098732), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 121st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in action on 9 August 1944, in the vicinity of Pleurituit, France. When his platoon was attacked by an enemy force supported by a reconnaissance car armed with a 37-mm. gun, Sergeant Webster, with complete disregard for his own safety, moved into the open and engaged the enemy vehicle with automatic rifle fire. After he had put the vehicle out of action, he directed his fire on the enemy foot troops, forcing them to withdraw. His actions alone repelled the enemy attack.
