The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Captain (Infantry) Robert A. Wann (ASN: 0-1303235), United States Army, for heroic achievement during ground operations against a hostile force as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 26 March 1951, the 1st Battalion was in the attack with the mission to destroy all enemy forces in the vicinity of Chickchon-ju, Korea. During the advance, Captain Wann, Battalion Executive Officer, was entrusted with the task of supplying the unit with ammunition. In an attempt to locate a route into the battalion’s position in the mountains, he personally organized and led a patrol beyond the unit’s forward elements and located a route through the enemy lines. Captain Wann’s location of a supply route materially aided in having the battalion quickly supplied with vital ammunition. The initiative and heroic leadership displayed by Captain Wann reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
