The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Stanley Waite (ASN: 35516837), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Infantry Regiment, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 July 1944 near ****, France. The advance of his company was being delayed by heavy machine gun fire from a concealed enemy tank. First Sergeant Waite and another man advanced against the tank with a rocket launcher, crippled it and enabled its destruction by mortar fire. First Sergeant Waite’s conspicuous bravery and resolute determination reflects great credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the military service.
