The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Floyd L. Sexton (ASN: 20225856), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 114th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division, in action on 5 May 1945 in the vicinity of Tarranz, Austria. While clearing the buildings in the town of enemy snipers, the group which Sergeant Sexton led was subjected to intense fire from a house located in an intersection and surrounded by open ground. Running to the house although the fire continued, he threw a hand grenade through a window, temporarily suspending the fire. Then kicking in the door, he encountered an armed enemy officer and immediately shot him. This caused the remainder of the Germans to surrender. Sergeant Sexton’s outstanding heroism is worthy of high praise.
