The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Waldemar L. Prichard (ASN: 0-413167), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 July 1944, in the vicinity of *****, Normandy, France. In the face of heavy enemy machine gun and sniper fire, and without regard to his own safety, Captain Prichard continually exposed himself to enemy fire in an effort to locate enemy emplacements. Although he was later wounded, his undaunted courage and untiring devotion to duty were an inspiration to his men and were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
