The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Anthony M. Pocaro (ASN: 12007650), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 October 1944, in German y. When his company was making an assault upon the Siegfried Line, an operation which included a river crossing, Private Pocaro, who was serving as a platoon runner, observed that one of his comrades, who was carrying a part of a heavy machine gun, had become a casualty. Without hesitation, Private Pocaro retrieved this portion of the gun and carried it to a forward position where he helped get the weapon into action. His calmness under fire and performance of acts beyond the scope of his duty greatly aided in the successful crossing of the river. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Pocaro, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
