The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Munson L. Perry (ASN: 36151057), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, on 7 August 1944, in France. Sergeant Perry was assigned to duty as the motor sergeant of a field artillery unit. An enemy counter-attack spearheaded with enemy infantrymen supported by tanks beset his organization and threatened to envelope the motor park in which his vehicle had been placed. Sergeant Perry, with complete disregard for his own safety, left his shelter and organized the drivers in the motor park to set up a defensive line which dispelled the counter-attacking forces. The splendid soldiership and personal courage exhibited in the leadership of Sergeant Perry reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces.
