The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Arval H. Perry (ASN: 0-2322404), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 August 1944, in France. First Lieutenant Perry was serving as a Platoon Leader with an Infantry Battalion engaged in an attack against the enemy. As a result of an action sustained for several hours, First Lieutenant Perry and a group of six enlisted men, displaying outstanding qualities of soldiership and daring courage, were instrumental in destroying a large number of enemy vehicles including two staff cars, destroying two enemy guns, killing seven enemy soldiers, and capturing more than one hundred and fifty prisoners. The superior leadership and personal bravery demonstrated by First Lieutenant Perry on this occasion were an inspiring example to his men. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Perry, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
