The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Harry L. Neath (ASN: 0-1166573), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Field Artillery Battalion, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 July 1944, in *****, France. Captain Neath, as field artillery liaison officer serving with an infantry battalion, advanced to within thirty yards of enemy positions, exposing himself to direct machine gun and artillery fire from enemy tanks in order to further the infantry attack by furnishing prompt and effective artillery support. He has constantly exhibited resolute determination and conspicuous coolness and courage regardless of his personal safety. The exceptionally close and effective support provided by him has contributed incalculably to the success of the operations. Captain Neath’s spirited devotion to duty has been an inspiration to those about him and reflects the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.
