Headquarters, 79th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 41 (August 12, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Paul E. Murray (ASN: 34125758), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 July 1944 in France. Although seriously wounded at the time, Private Murray further exposed himself to enemy fire in order to place a machine gun back into action after it had been temporarily disabled by enemy fire. His deed gave his company additional fire power at a time when it was needed badly. For his spirit of self-sacrifice and valiant demeanor under fire, Private Murray reflects highest credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
