The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Arville T. Trostrud (ASN: RA-19339369), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 9 September 1950. While serving as forward observer with an infantry battalion near Haman, Korea, Corporal Trostrud was wounded and his radio destroyed by intense enemy fire. Heedless of his wound, he joined the assault force as a rifleman, and again was wounded. When the company commander of the unit to which he was attached was wounded, Corporal Trostrud carried him through concerted enemy fire to safety. As he made his way back up the hill to rejoin the attacking unit, he collapsed from loss of blood. Corporal Trostrud’s courageous initiative and unflagging devotion to his comrades, reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
