(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Robert B. Langmeier, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 88th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Italy during World War II. With utter disregard for his life, Private Langmeier was tending the casualties of the company to which he was attached as medical aidman. He never stopped assisting the wounded, and after being captured, he asked his captors to allow him to continue his work, finished dressing the wounds of his men and helped carry them to a safe place. Soon thereafter his company counterattacked and recaptured the position. The enemy withdrew and left Private Langmeier behind to care for both German and American wounded. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Langmeier, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
