The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Armor) James G. Lail (ASN: 0-426722), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 50th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action against the enemy in Germany during the period 7 April 1945 to 15 April 1945. Serving as Battalion S-3, he repeatedly exposed himself to all types of enemy fire, in order to better control the task force columns and to employ his forces effectively, against every type of enemy resistance encountered. By his utter disregard for personal safety, under all types of enemy fire, he was a constant inspiration to the members of the task force. His tactical judgment, unhesitating decisions and gallant leadership reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
