Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 366 (October 2, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private] Albert J. Kiser (ASN: 39590984), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany. On 19 March 1945, after taking cover in a trench in the Siegfried Line, near Rimschweiler, Germany, Corporal Kiser, an assistant machine gunner, observed a three-story pillbox, 60 yards to his left front, from which two machine guns wee spraying heavy fire at friendly troops. Picking up the rifle of a casualty, he crawled through shell fire hitting 30 yards from him, to the side of the pillbox. He then leaped down to a platform below ground level, rammed his M-1 into the back of an enemy office and took him prisoner. Prodding his captive ahead of him, Corporal Kiser boldly entered the pillbox and took prisoner five more Germans who were operating the two machine guns. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Kiser, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
