The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Private First Class] Anthony J. Jasiukiewiez, United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, in action at Leyte, Philippine Islands, on 5 November 1944. Sergeant Jasiukiewiez was a scout for an infantry rifle platoon. He pushed forward in front of his platoon under heavy enemy fire and covered a trail to prevent an enemy flanking movement while his platoon moved into position. Later in the same action, he volunteered and went on three patrols into enemy territory and brought back valuable information concerning enemy strength and dispositions. Throughout the whole action, he demonstrated a high degree of personal courage and disregard for his safety and was an inspiration to all the men of his platoon. His action reflects great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
