Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 128 (December 19, 1944), Amended by General Orders No. 198 (July 24, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Odell Hunt (ASN: 34031036), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 August 1944, in France. Corporal Hunt was serving as an anti-tank gunner on a roadblock which was attacked by a large enemy force, including two enemy tanks. Although the roadblock was completely covered by fierce enemy machine gun fire, Corporal Hunt elected to remain by his gun until he was mortally wounded. As a result of his determination and aggressive fighting spirit, the enemy tanks were knocked out and the enemy attack failed. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Hunt, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
