(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Walter S. Shultise, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States at the scene of an explosion in Algeria in August 1943. Second Lieutenant Shultise helped to direct the removal of two wounded men amid exploding small arms fire. His prompt, courageous actions save the life of one of the wounded men and his actions are exemplary of the high traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
