Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 47 (August 25, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Michael Hudak (ASN: 35369983), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 July 1944, in France. Technician Fifth Grade Hudak, acting as wireman with a forward observation section, constantly patrolled and kept in wire while his section advanced after crossing a river. The majority of his work was done along a heavily-shelled road, where his section was advancing and where the wire had been blown out constantly. At one time, with complete disregard for his personal safety, he voluntarily carried a radio six hundred yards in front of his own lines, and in direct view of the enemy so that fire from his battery could be brought to bear on the enemy strong point. His courage and loyal devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
