The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Claude H. Hall, United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 24th Infantry Division, in action at Leyte, Philippine Islands, on 12 November 1944. On this day, Lieutenant Hall, platoon leader, while severely wounded, and at further risk of his life, exposed himself to enemy fire to direct artillery fire upon advancing Japanese troops and an active enemy field piece. Lieutenant Hall’s aggressiveness and leadership under fire served as a continuous example and inspiration to the whole company and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
