The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Melvin L. Goldblatt (ASN: 37499332), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 21 March 1945, in Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Goldblatt and his companions heroically risked death or capture to cross the Rhine River and reconnoiter an area where other patrols had encountered resistance in an attempt to gain information of enemy strength and disposition. By their courageous efforts, they obtained vital information which later facilitated the crossing of the river. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Goldblatt, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
