The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Randall H. Ford (ASN: 35742932), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, *** Infantry Regiment, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 July 1944, at *****, France. The medical section to which Technician Fifth Grade Ford was attached remained in ***** to assist in caring for the wounded of another battalion. In the course of the action an ambulance was knocked out, both drivers were wounded and further injury was inflicted on the casualties being transported. Disregarding the extremely heavy artillery fire, Technician Fifth Grade Ford, acting alone and on his own initiative made his way to the injured and evacuated them in his vehicle. This conspicuous act of humanity and courage was an inspiration to all about him. His heroic devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the military service.
