Headquarters, 104th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 171 (June 13, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) George B. Decker (ASN: 0-1181221), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Battery B, 929th Field Artillery Battalion, 104th Infantry Division during World War II. During the day Second Lieutenant Decker distinguished himself while serving as a forward observer with the Second Battalion by advancing ahead of the main body attempting to neutralize the pillboxes. He made his way through the area strewn with anti-personnel mines and reached a point seventy yards from the enemy strongholds. From this position he skillfully delivered effective eight-inch howitzer fire that was found the following day to have helped in making the strong points untenable for the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
