The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Ralph C. Daniel (ASN: 0-1303679), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1944, in France. When his company came under such heavy artillery fire that the attack halted and casualties were steadily mounting, including the company commander, First Lieutenant Daniel rapidly assumed command and moved about under the intense fire, encouraging the men and rallying them in an attack. By his fearless actions in braving almost certain injury, the men gained new courage and moved forward so aggressively that the enemy was forced to retreat. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Daniel, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
