(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Phillip N. Chacon, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 5th Armored Division during World War II. Lieutenant Chacon flew his L-4 plane low over friendly ground troops who were being attacked by error by American fighter planes. His action helped screen and identify the troops until his radio message could be relayed to the fighter pilots, notifying them of their mistake. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
