The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fifth Grade Robert William Cassels (ASN: 32288747), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 10th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 December 12944, in the vicinity of Echtplach, Luxembourg. When several enlisted men became casualties due to heavy enemy mortar and small arms fie, Technician Fifth Grade Cassels, a Medical Aidman, without hesitation or thought of personal safety, entered the exposed terrain to administer medical treatment to his wounded comrades. When he had completed rendering treatment to our casualties and while engaged in aiding an enemy soldier, Technician Fifth Grade Cassels was instantly killed by enemy automatic fire.
