The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Harry R. Attebery (ASN: 19140912), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 March 1945, in Germany. Staff Sergeant Attebery courageously crawled across three hundred yards of open terrain subjected to heavy enemy fire to deliver a section of a radio which would enable his unit’s artillery observation post to direct fire on the enemy. His gallant action enabled effective fire to be brought to bear on the enemy at a critical stage of operations. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Attebery, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
