The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Banaba Ahyo (ASN: 20014840), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 28 July 1944, in France. Sergeant Ahyo was assigned to duty as a leader of an infantry assault group attacking enemy forces. During the initial stages of the attack, Sergeant Ahyo was grievously wounded but gallantly he remained at his post and refused medical aid until he had led his assault group and succeeded in taking the objective. During the entire course of the action, he was subjected to violent hostile small arms, mortar, and artillery fire. The bravery and courageous leadership displayed by Sergeant Ahyo reflect great credit on himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces.
