Headquarters, 42d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 28 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Albert Ruberti (ASN: 32493452), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 242d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division. On 27 February 1945, Private Ruberti, near Kohlhutte, France, voluntarily carried an SCR 300 radio on a combat patrol mission. Although the patrol was subjected to heavy machine gun, mortar, grenade and rifle fire from well dug-in hilltop positions, Private Ruberti stayed well forward near the patrol leader to maintain contact with the supporting weapons. After several members of the patrol had been wounded, Private Ruberti remained behind and, in the face of intense enemy fire, covered the withdrawal of the patrol until all the wounded had been evacuated. Then, covering his own withdrawal up a steep incline by rifle fire, he brought the radio back to safety. His courageous act was responsible for the safe return of our wounded.
