The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Stanislaw Norkevicus (ASN: 6042677), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division. On 6 January 1945, at Ingolsheim, France, when an enemy tank attacked our men in foxholes, Private Norkevicus unhesitatingly exposed himself to heavy fire from the tank in order to bring his machine-gun to bear upon the enemy. By his courageous action, Private Norkevicus caused the enemy tank to withdraw, thus preventing further casualties to our troops.
