Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 13 (January 6, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Harry F. Yonce (ASN: US-53077508), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea. On 24 November 1951, near Kowang-san, Korea, Company F’s assault platoon was subjected to intense enemy mortar and rifle fire from heavily fortified hostile positions on Hill 355. During this action, three men of the unit were wounded, and Private Yonce, medical aidman attached to the platoon, fearlessly crawled into the open embattled terrain to administer first aid to the stricken soldiers. He then carried them to a covered position where they were evacuated to the rear. Following this courageous action, he again moved over exposed terrain and administered aid to wounded men of another unit until they were evacuated. Private Yonce’s gallant concern for the welfare of his fellow soldiers reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of Georgia.
