Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 597 (October 12, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Alberto M. Ybarra (ASN: US-56065880), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 and 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On these dates, as Company K launched an attack to secure enemy dominated terrain features, heavy enemy resistance was encountered, resulting in several friendly casualties. Corporal Ybarra, with complete disregard for his own safety, moved under intense enemy fire, carrying the wounded men to positions of safety and treating those that could not be moved. He remained with the wounded to protect them against the infiltrating enemy until adequate medical attention was maintained. Upon returning to his assigned duty as a radio operator, Corporal Ybarra was painfully wounded while exposing himself to enemy fire in order to establish contact with supporting units. The gallantry and devotion to comrades demonstrated by Corporal Ybarra reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
