(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Air Defense Artillery) John Stanton Wilson, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving 1st Battalion (Automatic Weapons) (Self Propelled), 44th Artillery Regiment, 108th Artillery Group, as an evaluator with a Vulcan Weapons System Evaluation Team, at Long Binh, Vietnam, on 23 February 1969. During an enemy attack on the base, Captain Wilson left his relatively secure bunker position to enable its protection to several less-protected civilians. This courageous action exposed him to an enemy rocket explosion which mortally wounded him. Captain Wilson’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
