Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 82 (March 29, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Johnnie L. Williams (ASN: RA-18297910), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 27 November 1950, near Majon-ni, Korea, Private Williams’ unit was ambushed by a numerically superior enemy force. Private Williams, totally disregarding his personal safety, left his covered position and exposed himself to the vigorous enemy fire in order to place his own fire upon the enemy positions. He was wounded in his left arm and right leg, but, despite these painful injuries, he continued to fire at the enemy and inflicted many casualties. After his area had been cleared of the enemy, he proceeded to another sector of the ambush area, saw a damaged ambulance, ran to it, picked up wounded personnel and drove them to safety. During this time he was again wounded in the left leg and had to be carried from his ambulance. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Private Williams reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
