(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Louis Alfred Walsh, Jr. (ASN: 0-19567), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division, in action against the enemy in the Luzon Campaign in the Philippine Islands, on the night on 1945. Lieutenant Colonel Walsh helped plan and execute the raid on the Los Banos internment camp, resulting in the liberation of 2,146 civilians, for his gallantry on the night of 14 February, when the Japanese staged a heavy attack on a regimental command post. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Walsh, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
