The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Harden B. Walker (ASN: RA-33641213), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 1 December 1950, near Hunu-ri, Korea, during an attack by a large hostile force, and officer was seriously wounded and lay in an exposed area. Sergeant First Class Walker, a member of the communications platoon, unhesitatingly moved across the fire-swept terrain and carried the officer some 1,500 yards to a position of relative safety from which he could be evacuated. Sergeant First Class Walker’s notable courage, determination and selfless regard for the welfare of his comrades reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
