Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 3 (January 6, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Robert L. Wade (ASN:), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 29 November 1950 as Sergeant Wade’s company was returning to Majon-ni, Korea, after escorting a convoy of supplies to Tongyong, Korea, it was ambushed by a heavily armed enemy of superior numbers. After the company had extricated itself from one ambush, it was discovered that a vehicle containing approximately 15 wounded men had been left in the ambush area. Sergeant Wade, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, voluntarily returned to the ambush area, through intense enemy fire, and drove the vehicle and its wounded occupants to safety. The heroism and gallantry displayed by Sergeant Wade on this occasion saved the lives of several wounded men and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
