Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 723 (November 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Wilfred G. Schreieck (ASN: US-55119746), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 September 1951, in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date during an attack on well-fortified enemy positions, Private Schreieck totally ignored the intense hostile small arms, automatic weapons and mortar fire as he crawled forward to destroy several hostile bunkers. During this hectic advance his squad leader was seriously wounded. Private Schreieck, with complete disregard for his own safety, went to the aid of his squad leader and carried him to safety under point blank fire directed upon him by the enemy. After seeing that his comrade was in a safe position for treatment, Private Schreieck rejoined his unit and assisted in accomplishing its mission. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty and comrades displayed by Private Schreieck on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
