Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 614 (October 19, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Carl P. Schauer (ASN: US-55032431), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date the platoon, to which Corporal Schauer was assigned as a 57-mm. recoilless rifle gunner, was pinned down by intense enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire from a well-built emplacement. Corporal Schauer, with complete disregard for his personal safety, moved his weapon to an exposed position, under intense enemy fire, and placed effective fire into the enemy emplacement. He succeeded in destroying it, inflicting heavy casualties upon the enemy, thus enabling his platoon to continue the advance and successfully secure its objective. The gallantry in action demonstrated by Corporal Schauer on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
