The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Boleslow M. Sander (ASN: ER-33364134), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 21 May 1951, in the vicinity of Pamnam-gol, Korea. The rifle platoon led by Sergeant Sander had the mission of attacking and securing well-entrenched enemy positions in the vicinity of Pamnam-gol. As the platoon approached to within 200 yards of its objective, it came under intense enemy machine gun fire which pinned it down. Sergeant Sander, with complete disregard for his personal safety, advanced alone to a forward position from which he was able to fire upon the enemy machine gun emplacement. Although he was wounded, he effectively silenced the hostile machine gun with concentrated and accurate fire, thereby enabling his platoon to maneuver and secure its objective. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Sander reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
