Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 120 (March 1, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Aaron M. Sanada (ASN: US-50001944), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 8 October 1951 in the vicinity of Sandanggol, Korea. On this date Company G had the mission of attacking strategic enemy-held positions along Hill 1005. As the unit advanced through a narrow defile, it encountered heavy hostile resistance of mortar, small arms and automatic weapons fire which inflicted several friendly casualties. Corporal Sanada, with complete disregard for his personal safety, left his sheltered position to assist his wounded comrades. Fully realizing the risk involved, he made numerous trips over the fire-swept terrain to render medical aid to the wounded men and evacuate them to safety. While attempting to carry a helpless comrade to safety Corporal Sanada was wounded by an enemy round. Despite the intense pain, he continued carrying the man to safety and medical attention. His selfless devotion to duty and comrades was an inspiration to all who observed him and undoubtedly saved the lives of many men who otherwise might have died of wounds. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Sanada will live forever in the hearts of his comrades.
