The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private John A. Rzeczkowski (ASN: 6905114), United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy, while serving with Company G, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On ** August 1943, at ******, Sicily, a truck with ten passengers struck and exploded four land mines, critically injuring five men and setting fire to the gasoline and small arms ammunition loaded on the truck. Several men were trapped in the truck and in great danger from the exploding small arms ammunition and burning gasoline. Private Rzeczkowski, without regard for his personal safety, entered the truck and helped remove the injured men and carry them a safe distance away.
