The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Paul C. Rogers (ASN: 0-957432), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery B, 37th Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 3 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. On that date Lieutenant Rogers, an artillery forward observer, accompanied a rifle company in an attack to secure high ground to its front. After advancing approximately 100 yards, the company received such intense enemy small arms fire that it was forced to withdraw. When the withdrawal had been completed, it was learned that several wounded men had been left behind. Observing this, Lieutenant Rogers, with complete disregard for his personal safety, dashed forward into the hail of enemy fire, picked up a wounded soldier, and carried him out of the line of fire. Again he returned through the fire-swept terrain and assisted a second rifleman to safety. The gallantry and devotion to his fallen comrades displayed on this occasion by Lieutenant Rogers reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
