Headquarters, U.S. Army Forces in the South Pacific Area, General Orders No. 1049 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Walter W. Robinson (ASN: 36229075), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action at Bougainville, on 11 March 1944. Private First Class Robinson repeatedly exposed himself to gain vantage points from which to throw hand grenades and more effectively fire his automatic rifle. On several occasions, he left the safety of his pillbox to crawl to the rear, returning with much-needed ammunition. His conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty were in the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
