The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Roy W. Robinson, Jr. (ASN: 0-1873705), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 13 February 1953 in the vicinity of Kowang-ni, Korea. On that date, Lieutenant Robinson was leader of a combat patrol whose mission was to capture enemy prisoners and destroy a hostile outpost. Under his skillful direction, the patrol crept to within a few yards of the objective before being detected. Throughout the vicious fire fight that ensued, Lieutenant Robinson maintained complete control of the fast moving situation, continually exposing himself while moving among the men giving fire directions and encouragement. Capitalizing on the surprise element and holding the initiative, the friendly patrol, under the courageous leadership of Lieutenant Robinson, completely destroyed the position and inflicted severe enemy casualties. While making the planned withdrawal from the enemy territory, Lieutenant Robinson continued to display complete disregard for his safety by personally screening the move with his own weapon. The gallantry and selfless devotion to duty exhibited by Lieutenant Robinson reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
