The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Chaplain’s Corps) Lyle Winfred Robinson, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as a Chaplain with the 224th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division, in action in Korea, on 27 October 1952. Chaplain Robinson, upon arrival at a company area, found the position under intense enemy fire. Since the men could not be assembled for services, Chaplain Robinson disregarded his personal safety and went from bunker to bunker to visit with the men and give them confidence. While visiting these positions, he received word that some officers had been wounded in the area of the company command post, and despite the fact that the area was being subjected to heavy enemy mortar fire, he went to the wounded men and gave them moral support through prayer. Upon learning that communications to the battalion command post were cut, he volunteered to go to the battalion commander and acquaint him with the situation in the area. Chaplain Robinson’s heroic actions in the face of an armed enemy served as an inspiration to all connected with him. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
