Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 38 (1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Claude N. Robinson (ASN: 0-64294), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 14 August 1952, the elements of a platoon led by Lieutenant Robinson, were preparing to attack and secure an enemy-held hill in the vicinity of Chokko-ri, Korea, when they were subjected to enemy machine gun fire. Lieutenant Robinson, while forcing the enemy machine gun crew to seek cover from his carbine fire, called for and adjusted friendly mortar fire upon the hostile emplacement. When the enemy began leaving the positions, he led his men in an assault upon the hill and although sustaining wounds, he continued to lead them until they gained the objective. Immediately after the friendly elements began occupying the hill, the enemy subjected the position to an artillery barrage, forcing their withdrawal. Lieutenant Robinson remained at his position, directing friendly artillery fire upon the enemy and supervising the withdrawal of his men. Only after the wounded were evacuated, did he accept medical treatment. Lieutenant Robinson’s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
